The S.G.J. Group of Companies traces its origins to the early 20th century, when our late founder, Shri. S. G. Jayaraj Nadar, began his entrepreneurial journey as a general merchant in Kodaikanal — one of Tamil Nadu’s prominent hill stations. With foresight, determination, and a strong work ethic, he steadily expanded his business interests — laying the foundation for what would become a respected multi-industry business house.

By the 1920s, the Group had entered the transport sector — a move that marked a significant turning point in its growth. Over the decades, the business diversified into automotive sales and service, distribution, and infrastructure-related activities — earning a reputation for reliability, professionalism, and customer trust.

The Group’s automotive legacy was further strengthened in the mid-20th century with dealerships for leading vehicle brands, petroleum products, and agricultural and construction equipment — reinforcing its position as a trusted construction equipment dealer and automotive lubricant distributor.

Building on the founder’s vision, the Group’s growth was further consolidated under the leadership of the late Shri. G. J. Rathinasamy and later by Mr. R. Jayakumar Jayaraj, who played a pivotal role in expanding and diversifying the business across automotive, distribution, and allied sectors.

Today, with close to a century of experience, the S.G.J. Group of Companies continues to evolve by combining its legacy values with modern business practices. The next generation — Ms. Kavita Rebecca, Mr. Ranjit Zachariah, and Mr. Ajit Christopher, the daughter and sons of Shri. R. Jayakumar Jayaraj — is actively involved in managing the operations of the Group’s various businesses, ensuring continuity of values while driving the organisation forward with a focus on long-term partnerships, customer trust, and sustainable growth.

Ranjit Zachariah is instrumental in managing and strengthening the Group’s operational and strategic initiatives. With hands-on involvement across multiple businesses, he contributes to improving efficiency, enhancing customer engagement, and driving long-term value creation across the organisation.

He holds a degree in Production Engineering and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (Family Business). He joined the family business in 2008 and has been actively involved in managing operations across the group’s automotive, equipment, and allied business verticals.

Ajit Christopher represents the next generation of leadership within the Group. Actively involved in overseeing business operations, he plays a key role in driving growth across the organisation’s diversified verticals while upholding the legacy of service, integrity, and long-term relationships established by earlier generations.

He holds a degree in Production Engineering and a Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (Family Business). He joined the family business in 2009 and has since been closely involved in strengthening operational efficiency and strategic growth initiatives across multiple group entities.
